Measuring Gasket for Door
Measuring a cooler door gasket is simple, but there are a couple of methods depending on what type you have. This diagram shows two of the most common ways to do it.
Left Side: Outside-to-Outside Method
This is the most frequent way and works well for screw-in gaskets or when you don't know the gasket type. You simply measure the full width and height of the existing gasket, from the very outer edge on one side to the outer edge on the other. Use a tape measure to get the exact width and then the height.
Right Side: Dart-to-Dart Method (Center-to-Center)
If your gasket is a "push-in" type, which has a little barb or dart that snaps into a groove, this method is better. You'll need to peel back a part of the old gasket to reveal the groove in the door frame. Then, measure from the center of the groove on one side directly to the center of the groove on the other, for both width and height.
The smaller diagrams at the bottom show you the profile differences: a screw-in gasket is flat and attaches with a retainer strip, while a push-in gasket has a unique barb profile.
